Country's Most Dangerous Cities
It's that time a year again. Time for "the 14th annual "City Crime Rankings: Crime in Metropolitan America," published by CQ Press, a unit of Congressional Quarterly Inc. The report looks at 378 cities with at least 75,000 people and their per-capita rates for homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and auto theft. Each crime category was considered separately and weighted based on its seriousness, CQ Press said."
Did your city make the list? (I'll be going to the #1 most dangerous city for Christmas this year. There's an early Christmas present for me.)
1. Detroit, Michigan
2. St. Louis, Missouri
3. Flint, Michigan
4. Oakland, California
5. Camden, New Jersey
6. Birmingham, Alabama
7. North Charleston, South Carolina
8. Memphis, Tennessee
9. Richmond, California
10. Cleveland, Ohio

New song from Keane
Democratic debate...live blog (until I get annoyed and stop)
7:11...Debate begins and Hillary Clinton completely avoids the first question.
7:12...Obama goes after Clinton. Nice tie thou.
7:13...Clinton and Obama are going back and forward. Other canidiates are wondering if they will ever get to talk.
7:15...Sheer chaos has ensued. People yelling from the crowd while Obama is trying to talk.
7:16...Edwards has pretty hair and slams Bush.
7:20...Who the heck are these other people in this debate? A few of you it is time to throw in the towel
7:30...already losing interest
7:31...Is this a debate or a subway speaker? I can't understand a thing with 50 people talking at the same time.
7:32...Wolf Biltzer asks them all to simply answer yes or no to the driver's license question...absolutely no one can answer just yes or no...they all add additional stuff. Biltzer is getting ticked.
7:33...Kucinich just said that there "are no illegal aliens, just like there is no such thing as illegal people"...what?!?!?! To quote Ron Burgendy from Anchorman, "That makes no sense."
7:37...Vegas seems to like Chris Dodd.
7:37...I think Kucinich is standing on a box so he reaches the microphone.
7:42...I just fell asleep during Biden's response to a question about teacher merit pay. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
7:46...Gov. Richardson is talking about the crisis in Pakistan...
7:47...still hasn't answered the question.
7:48...Edwards just took a timeout to comb his hair. Edwards said if he is President, he is going to rid the world of nuclear weapons...good luck with that.
7:50...I bet Obama can throw down some vicious two-hand dunks.
7:51...Chris Dodd just tried to throw down some Spanish...didn't work so well.
7:55...Time to watch The Office

Are the Yankees smart or dumb? Yes!
Here is what is smart about the Yankees…their Marketing Department. If there is any group that deserves a $275 million contract, it’s them. This is the group that reels in the big bucks, so that the Yankees can have a payroll of $200 million plus. They are the ones that make the endorsement deals with shoe and apparel companies, sell the stadium name rights (by the way they are selling naming rights, yet it will still be called Yankee Stadium…whoever puts money out for this, their Marketing Dept. needs to be canned), and the YES network. Overall the Yankees are worth around $1.2 billion, which clearly has a lot to do with the marketing of the Yankees. All of that is well and good, but isn’t the point to win championships? Yes, yes, they have the most World Championships in baseball history, but lets talk about the last ten years when they became dumb. I have covered some of this in previous posts, but after they won 3 championships in 4 years, they thought the way to go was to pay huge amounts of money to the stars of the league. However, they didn’t decide to spend all that money on the most important part of the team…the pitching staff and that’s what they are doing once again. In the last 10 years they have went to signing hitters…A-Rod, Giambi, Abreu, Sheffield, Damon, etc. while forgetting to sign pitching. Instead they decided to sign Mussina, Pettite (second time around), Randy Johnson, and Clemens (at age 45!!!). They also just threw out a 3-yr. $45 million contract to Rivera, who is on the decline…still a quality closer, but not for that money. Why do the Yankees not go after solid pitching, rather than just add more hitters? Pitching wins championships, period. Red Sox, Cardinals, White Sox, Marlins, etc. all had solid starting rotations when they won their championships. When will the Yankees catch on?
Some of you are going to say why do you care so much, when you dislike the Yankees? It’s not about my dislike of the Yankees, it’s sad to see people throw money down the drain like the Yankees are doing...ok maybe I think it's hilarious.
