3:10 to Yuma

My wife and I rented 3:10 to Yuma this weekend and if you haven't seen it yet, you neeg to. Russell Crowe and Christian Bale are great in their roles and the story is awesome. My dad and I use to watch Clint Eastwood Westerns like "Pale Rider" and "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" and one of my favorite movies of all-time is "Unforgiven." So I enjoy a good Western and if I could live at any time period (other that Jesus' time) it would be the days of the Wild West. 3:10 to Yuma is a quality movie and is definitely one of my favorite Westerns...great story, the good guy vs the bad guy, the family facing land issues, etc.

Great movie...go rent it.

Winter X-Games

Absolutely love it. Watch it nightly on ESPN.

Ouch...

I have exited Kinnick Stadium and the Metrodome many times totally defeated after a terrible loss, but I don't think it compares to what Packers fans went through last Sunday after the NFC Championship game. Bill Simmons from ESPN.com gave Packers fans the award for "Most depressed group of fans." Here is what he wrote...

You're a Packers fan. You tailgated in sub-zero weather, watched your team play poorly in the NFC Championship Game in sub-zero weather and somehow make it to OT, had everything set up for another Favre miracle win, and then everything went to hell. Favre blew the game and you're filing out of a freezing-cold Lambeau like sardines and looking at (A) no Super Bowl and (B) a three-hour ride home in minus-4 degree weather. Wow. Now that's a tough loss.

80's Music

Ok I admit it...I love 80's music, especially 80's rock. I am currently watching VH1's Top 100 songs of the 80's.

Is it a bad thing that I can recognize and sing along with every song? I think my wife is shocked that I know all of the songs. Deep down in her heart I know that she loves it when I sing 80's songs to her.

Why I love Texas...

One of the biggest things I get a kick out of since Valerie and I moved to Dallas, is how people react to "cold" weather. I will admit that I have become a wuss and when it gets into the 40's or 50's I think it is cold, but having lived in Iowa and Minnesota I know that this is not cold at all.

The following is what I love about Texas...last night a cold front came through and left overnight temperatures in the 20's and the high today was about 38. The LEAD story on all of the local stations was about the cold front moving in. They had reporters outside all bundled up and they were interviewing people around town. In one interview a lady at a gas station was asked how she was coping with the cold weather and her response was, "I went and stocked up on food, I'm filling my car up with gas, and getting ready to settle down at home." Oh and they even did a story about how pizza deliveries are increased when it gets cold.

Come on people, the temperatures were going to be in the 20's and there was no snow, rain, sleet or anything in the forecast. Welcome to Texas...I am sure that will be me in a few years.

30-minute Worship

I remember as a kid sitting at church on a Sunday and thinking to myself, “Is this ever going to be over?” I just couldn’t deal with sitting in church for an entire HOUR! However, like many of us, as I grew more and more in my faith, I began to understand the importance of worship and began to look forward to Sunday mornings. This is especially true when I was living in Minneapolis and was attending John Piper’s church.

I say all of this because there is a church in Waco, Texas that I drive past often, that offers “30-minute Worship.” Isn’t this taking it a bit to the extreme? Click here to go to their website and read about it.

Armed Forces Bowl Recap

As I posted a few days ago, I attended the Armed Forces Bowl with a friend of mine and watched a very exciting game between Cal and Air Force. With this being the Armed Forces Bowl there was obviously a major focus on our Armed Forces. The picture above shows the flyover that took place after the National Anthem by two F-22's and a B1 Lancer bomber. It was so freakin awesome!! They were low enough where you could see their boosters flaming out the back and the noise rocked your entire body inside and out. I would say that it was definitely one of the coolest things I have ever seen at a football game. I think I may become a regular attendee at this bowl game just so I can experience the flyover each year.

On a sidenote, my seat for the game was in this picture. If you go straight down from the middle plane near the top of the bleachers, that's where I am.

New Years Day

First of all, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year.

Second, here is what I am dealing with right now at 1:15 on New Years Day:

Cotton Bowl: Missouri vs Arkansas (blowout right now)
Capital One Bowl: Michigan vs Florida
Gator Bowl: Texas Tech vs Virigina (who cares)
Outback Bowl: Wisconsin vs Tennessee

and then you throw in the NHL Winter Classic of Pittsburgh vs Buffalo. This game is the first NHL game in history to be played outdoors in the United States...pretty cool.

I love New Years Day. Valerie, are the lil smokies ready yet!!!
