A Winter Wonderland...

It has been snowing here in Dallas since about 2:00am and it just keeps coming down. We are expecting about 6-8 inches by the time it's done. The great thing is that I know that it will all be gone in about 2 days becasue it is suppose to be 57 degrees here on Saturday.

I no longer own a shovel, so I had to use this tiny travel shovel I had to clear the driveway.

Becoming a dad...

Its been about 4 weeks since Lily was born and this is the first time I have really been able to sit down and type some stuff about it. Below are some thoughts from the day she was born.
1. While sitting at the hospital, I couldn't stand having the baby heart monitor right there. Every time the heartbeat slowed down, my heartbeat sped up.
2. The nurses we had were amazing. They are the real difference makers.
3. My wife is tough as nails. Going all the way through labor and then at the last minute having to have a C-Section.
4. The first noise we heard come out of Lily was pretty incredible.
5. After Lily was cleaned up and we were in our recovery room, the nurse brought her in and said, "Be sure to try and feed her every 2 hours, here is a paper to track her bathroom progress." Then turned around and left. Ummmm you got any more advice there nurse?
6. The black tar-like substance babies poop out for the first day or so...fascinating.
7. Every little sound she made those first nights caused me to rocket out of bed like the world was ending.
8. My wife is an amazing mom and being a dad is pretty cool.

Books I have recently read...

Awesome book about the Secret Service, specifically about Ronald Reagan's right hand man. Great insight on what the Secret Service has to do in preparation for the President's travel or daily activites. Highly recommend.

This book is about Aron Ralston who went out rock climbing and ended up getting lodged between two rocks. To free himself he ended up cutting his arm off with a pocketknife.

Great book about a climb on Mt. Everest that went bad. You will enjoy this read even if you know nothing about mountain climbing.

Christmas time in Texas...

It's update time...

Well its been quite some time since I have updated my blog, but when daily life and preparation for a little baby girl occurs, the blog is going to take a back seat. So, I thought I would give you a quick update on whats been happening the last month or so.

1. Our little girl is due on Dec. 12...very very excited

2. Went to U2/Muse concert at Cowboy Stadium in October. Muse was awesome! This was the 4th time I had seen U2 and I would have to say it was the least favorite of them all.

3. I became Mr. Handyman and installed new flooring and molding in our living room, hallway, and master bedroom. For a certain price you can hire me. Big thanks to my father-in-law who helped me with the living room and spend a bunch of money on tools. Favorite new tool...nail gun.

4. Valerie and I put up our Christmas decorations this weekend. A little early you ask? Well, we figured we should do it now before the baby gets here. It still is hard to get use to Christmas in Texas when the sun is shining, the windows are open and the leaves still have not fallen off all the trees.

5. We are staying here in Texas for Thanksgiving and will be the first time that it will be just Valerie and I (and Hawkeye). It will be a little wierd not being around family, but with Valerie being so close to the end of her preganancy, you can't risk being to far from home.

Hopefully I will get back to updating this a bit more often for the 2 of you that read this.
