I love last minute shots...

In the NBA last night, Devin Harris of the Nets hit an incredible half-court shot at the buzzer to win a game. It was crazy, however, I like this one below. I think what makes this so awesome is:
1. The arena they are playing in. It looks like an old airplane hanger and echos like crazy.
2. The reaction of the crowd. I love the burst of sound that takes place when a shot goes in at the buzzer. Awesome.
3. It meant something...the game was in OT and the shot sent the team to the NAIA playoffs.
4. This was no runner, fade away, pull up jump shot etc. It was a two-handed set shot heave from the old days.

Conan O'Brien...

Last night was Conan's final show before taking over for Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. I am glad that he is going to be coming on the air an hour earlier, because I think he is hilarious and love to watch his show (although I usually cash out long before it is on). The below clip is a classic.

What happened to the feel good talk?

Throughout the Presidential Campaign of Barack Obama, we heard so much about "hope" and "change." We heard about how "change was a comin'" and by electing Obama as President the United States the nation would be well on its way to being a nation of hope for every citizen. Oh how quickly the rhetoric can change.

As soon as the election was won, Obama's talk, specifically about the economy, has turned to words such as "fear, catastrophe, disaster, etc." What has happened to all the talk of hope, that so many (not me) bought into?

There was an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal by Bradley Schiller that talks about Obama's fearmongering rhetoric.

"Mr. Obama's analogies to the Great Depression are not only historically inaccurate, they're also dangerous. Repeated warnings from the White House about a coming economic apocalypse aren't likely to raise consumer and investor expectations for the future. In fact, they have contributed to the continuing decline in consumer confidence that is restraining a spending pickup. Beyond that, fearmongering can trigger a political stampede to embrace a "recovery" package that delivers a lot less than it promises. A more cool-headed assessment of the economy's woes might produce better policies."
