Really? Where are the broken promises? Lets start at the beginning:
1. No registered lobbyists can curry (?) favors with his administration. Interesting since in the first 14 days he was in office, Obama brought on 12 lobbyists (current or former) to be a part of his administration. Since then, the number has risen to at least 17, last I heard.
2. “As President I am going to make it impossible for Congressman or lobbyists to slip pork-barrel projects or corporate welfare projects…” Hmmmmm, the bailout bill that just went through had BILLIONS of dollars worth of earmarks and pork (both parties), for example one, backed by 2 Oregon senators, that that would benefit an Oregon manufacturer of wooden arrows for children with $2 million over 10 years. There was also one in there dealing with pig odor. Yep these things are going to get the economy rolling.
3. “No more secrecy…” in reference to when bills and laws are written. Example, why was it that Timothy Geithner, Chris Dodd, etc. knew about the AIG bonuses that were to be handed out a few weeks before it happened, yet said nothing. They knew that there would be an uproar, because those bonuses would come from bailout money (aka taxpayer money). They even proceeded to act as if they knew nothing, until Dodd finally came out and said that he wrote the amendment. That’s ridiculous and certainly not transparent. I realize that the gov’t can not be completely transparent and open about everything, but I am not an idiot and know when this type of crap is happening.
4. Bills being seen by the public. Yes, I agree that is happening now, but why wasn’t that the case when the “stimulus” bill was getting ready to be voted on? It went online 24-36 hours before the Senate voted on it. It was over 1000 pages in length and probably 95% (that actually is probably a low number) of the very people that were voting on it, DID NOT read it. Are you kidding me?? They are about to spend a TRILLION dollars of mine, yours, the American people’s hard earned money and they don’t even know what it says. Obama certainly didn’t give us 5 days to take a look, heck he didn’t even give the lawmakers in Washington time to read over it before he signed it.
Yes he is human, like me and you, and we all are not perfect. But do not stand there and bluntly say these things to the American people and then turn around and do the exact opposite. I read a great quote today from KT McFarland in an article she wrote and it said, “It’s not what you say you want to do that counts, it’s what you actually do.”
